9th August 2008
We have been to a couple of local dog shows recently
with Becky and Harry sharing the honours, but with fuel being so
expensive we will cut back on the shows to a certain extent.
Hopefully the situation won't last too long and we can all get back to
normal. Anyway we'll keep you informed of what is going on here at
Fenacre by the Dog Blog. Irene &
Mike
6th July 2008
Hi there, yeah it's been a while since the site was updated
but things have been so busy lately we don't know whether we've been
coming or going and, together with the current price of fuel we have
decided to cut back drastically on the dog shows. So there's not been a
lot of news lately, however, we do have news of a new addition
to the crew, namely Billy. So keep tuned in
to his page to find out about him. Irene &
Mike
30 April 2008
Well, we're finally back up and running - sorry about that
but our server had to be refreshed and it took some time to carry out
but we're back in the virtual world again. We will be carrying out a few
updates so please continue looking at the site
every few days. Irene &
Mike
22nd March 2008
Good Friday in name but not at all in nature, washout number
2 happened on a very cold and windy showground with a very small
ring. So, yet again, we have to say "there's always next
time". Irene &
Mike
16th March 2008
It was just one of those days today
but never mind, Becky managed a 2nd with Harry getting 4th so not quite
a total washout and there is always next time. Irene &
Mike.
15th March 2008
Worksop & District Open show is being held tomorrow with
Becky & Harry in breed classes under a Rough Collie breeder and Ruby
in Any Variety Gundog (AVG) Puppy. We await the results with
baited breath. Irene &
Mike.
10th March 2008
It turned out to be a mixed day at
Crufts; Becky was entered in Post Graduate Bitch but was not
placed but Harry had a slightly better result in Limit Dog and was
pulled out to the last 8 from the 29 dogs present in the class. Now we
start all over again and look forward (we think) to 2009.
Irene &
Mike.
5th March 2008
Well, it's finally arrived. The show that (virtually)
everyone in the show world works for all year round - Crufts. We are off
to Crufts this Saturday (8th March) where both Becky and Harry will be
shown. They both know that this is a 'special' show and behave
impeccably (usually). We know we won't get anything fantastic as
there will be so many superb Border Collies there and only 5 places
per class, but this really is a case of 'the taking
part'.
We take this opportunity to wish all our fellow exhibitors,
whatever breeds they have, the very best of luck for the
show. Irene &
Mike.
27th February 2008
This coming Saturday Ruby will be going to her first show
without the other dogs as it is a Gundog group show, Coventry
Gundog being held (surprise, surprise) in Coventry. She will be shown
for only the 3rd time in breed classes. Irene &
Mike.
23rd February 2008
Becky's 12th Reserve
Best of Breed and Ruby's good behaviour coupled with her wondeful
personality has made it such a very pleasant day. Irene & Mike.
21st February 2008
Please have a look at the new version of the Rainbow
Bridge page and let us know what you think about it. Irene &
Mike.
20th February 2008
Saturday promises to be a busy day for the Lincolnshire
'branch'. Irene will be dropped at the Welsh Springer Spaniel Club Open
Show with Ruby and Mike will then go on to Sutton Coldfield Open Show a
few miles away with both Harry and Becky. Thank goodness for mobile
phones ! Good luck to Andrea at her show for this weekend. Irene & Mike.
It's not only Lincolnshire that's busy;
down here in Devon we're going to the Cornwall Showground for St
Austell CS Open Show on Sunday, where Ronnie and Daniel will be
strutting their stuff. We'll let you know if we do anything.
Andrea.
17th February 2008
A good day today in Ruby's
first breed classes at Leicestershire Gundog Society. She was placed a
very pleasing 2nd under a breed specialist and we were both
delighted with her behaviour. She did have another class, AV Minor
Puppy, in which she did not get placed, but she was giving a lot of age
away. Irene &
Mike
15 February
2008
No show tomorrow as we are visiting
friends but we will be showing Ruby on Sunday at her first show with
breed classes. This will be an interesting experience for us both !
Irene &
Mike.
10th February 2008
Becky decided to equal her brother
by winning her 17th Best of Breed, beating him into 2nd place,
and followed this by outdoing him by taking 2nd place in
the Group . Irene &
Mike.
9th February
2008
Congratulations are due to Harry
(for his 23rd Best of Breed), Ronnie (for his Best Puppy in Breed) and
to Ruby (for being Ruby) at their respective shows today. Well done,
guys and gal. Irene & Mike.
We were so pleased when Ronnie, at
the tender age of just 6 months and 1 day took Best Puppy in Breed at
the Central Cornwall show. Let's hope he continues to do so well. Andrea.
7th February
2008
Well, the time is almost here;
Tomorrow is Ruby's 6 month birthday and her debut in the show
ring is just two days away. She has had a bath , a thorough groom/trim
and with just a little more sprucing up at the last minute will be ready
for her big day. We are both really looking forward to it although
Irene is more than a little apprehensive, but what will be will be. We
are also looking forward to meeting some friends at the show itself, two
of whom are coming primarily to cheer Ruby on.
We are sure that the same frantic
preparation is going on in Andrea's house and we wish Andrea, Richard
and Andrea's parents the very best of luck for Saturday and also hope
that Ronny and Daniel have a happy 6 month birthday. Irene &
Mike.
31st January
2008
The next show for our dogs will be
Midland Border Collie Club Championship show on Sunday 3rd February with
both Harry and Becky taking part and Ruby coming along for the
ride. We are hoping the weather will be kind for Sunday as the forecast
for tomorrow (Friday) is for an icy morning and a cold day with some
risk of snow in the afternoon, but we will get what we get and whatever
the weather we hope to have a nice day. It is hard to believe that,
after the Midlands show, there will be only 6 days before
Ruby's first appearance ! Where does the time go ? Irene &
Mike.
11th January
2008
We'll start 2008 by wishing
everybody a Happy New Year and the very best of luck to all our fellow
exhibitors. January is a really quiet month at the shows (none
booked) so our first one this year will be the Midland Border
Collie Club Championship show on 3rd February. By that time the front
garden of our home will have been sorted out with a combination of block
paving, stone chips and top soil (which will eventually be grassed
over). We hope to have some pictures showing progress. Ruby's
first ever show will be on the 9th of February. Irene & Mike.
At the start of 2008 I hope that
you had a really nice Christmas and send you Best Wishes for the New
Year. Ronnie and Daniel have both been entered for their first show,
Central Cornwall in February and are continuing well in training,
showing great promise. Andrea.
29th December
2007
For the last 2 shows of the year
there was mixed fortunes for Harry and Becky. At the first of the shows
Becky was placed 3rd out of 3 dogs, Harry 5th out of 5. At the second
show Becky won her class and was reserve Best of Breed and Harry was 2nd
behind the eventual Best of Breed and Group winner. Such are dog shows !
Irene &
Mike.
21st December
2007
Confirmation of Becky's ShCM award
received today - see Becky's page. Irene &
Mike.
16th December
2007
Ruby won her first ever competitive
class today (a puppy walk) at a local fun dog show that she visited with
Becky and Harry. Harry also won a first prize as well. Together
they were awarded lots of prizes (mainly food) most of
which were donated to a local dog rescue centre. Irene &
Mike.
15th December
2007
At The Lincoln Canine Society show
today Becky came 1st in the Post Graduate class. Harry was 1st in Open
and took his 22nd Best of Breed. He later took 2nd place in
the Group challenge. Their last shows this year are Sleaford
& DCS and Nottingham Sherwood Foresters KA on the 27th &
29th December respectively. Irene &
Mike.
10th
December
At her 3rd ringcraft session Ruby
showed improvement on last week and really enjoyed herself as well.
Irene &
Mike.
7th December
2007
Next show for Harry and Becky will
be Lincoln Canine Society to be held on 15th December 2007. Irene &
Mike.
3rd December
2007
Becky has now built up sufficient
points to be able to claim her Show Certificate of Merit (ShCM) from The
Kennel Club. See Becky's page for details. Irene & Mike.
Ruby attended her second ringcraft
training tonight, for a young puppy of 16 weeks she did very well
and made a decent amount of progress. Despite being a little
overawed by the bigger dogs she made friends with two other puppies
of around the same age, a St Bernard and a Newfoundland. Irene &
Mike.
