Goldfish

Say Hi to Buddy (the Redcap) and Red (the Gold), two Oranda fancy goldfish. This the only picture available as the glass aquarium they live in now causes too much reflection in photographs. They are really lovely fish having their own characters and are really friendly taking food from the hand. Since moving into the glass aquarium they have grown incredibly and are still growing.

Hamsters

Sadly, Ben the Russian Dwarf Hamster reached the end of his life but leaves behind 7 of his relatives. They are quite affectionate but unfortunately only live for two to three years.

Wild birds

Feeding and watching the wild birds is another of interest from which a great deal of pleasure is gained. It is quite interesting to watch as they learn how to get food from the different feeders that have been provided for them.

Occasionally a quite large pheasant actually gets himself almost stuck under the roof of the bird table but sneaking up close enough to him to take a picture has proved difficult.

There are also a number of nest boxes dotted around the garden for different types of birds, most of which have seen some use over the last few years.

Chickens

The most recent addition to our little menagerie are 4 chickens bought to provide a supply of fresh eggs (and if anybody mentions "The Good Life" we won't be held responsible for our actions).

Irene wanted to call them "Eenie, Meenie, Minie and Mo" but I prefered "Roast, Sliced, Boiled and Soup".

We may need to have a referendum !

In the end we settled on Big Bird, Little Mo, Brown Stripe and The Other One. If you want to know why just ask.

As the chickens were highly successful we decided to get some more so now we have a total of 9 hens who are producing a nice quantity of fresh eggs.
